Lootbound Barracks: Do Upgrades Apply to Companions?

Barracks upgrades apply to the starting hero

Buy Barracks upgrades for the character you intend to control. Those upgrades apply when that character starts the run as the main hero, not when the same character joins another hero as a companion.

Check the right version of the character

Choose which hero you want to start the next run with.
Buy that hero's intended upgrade in the Barracks.
Confirm the hero selection before entering the expedition.
Evaluate the starting hero's stats; do not use a recruited companion as the test for whether the purchase worked.

Recruitment still needs equipment

An upgraded Paladin in the Barracks is not a shortcut to an upgraded Paladin companion. Build the recruited character's equipment for the current run. Otherwise you may spend on one hero while expecting an improvement on a different party role.
